HISTORY

Our History

Saco Valley Federal Credit Union was chartered as a Federal Credit Union on February 5, 1947. The Credit Union was founded by the employees of Saco-Lowell Shops for the benefit of their employees and members of their immediate families and organizations of such persons.  Several small industrial groups were added to the Field of Membership over the next 48 years.

On December 8, 1997, Saco Valley Credit Union was approved for the change from a federal to a state charter, and expanded its field of membership to include individuals living or working in the communities of Buxton, West Buxton, Dayton, Hollis, South Hollis, Lyman, Saco, Waterboro and North Waterboro, Maine; and members of the immediate families of such individuals.  Then, on September 16, 1999, the State of Maine Department of Professional and Financial Regulation Bureau of Banking approved the addition of the communities of Biddeford and Old Orchard Beach, Maine into our field of membership.
