Not near a Saco Valley Credit Union branch? No problem!

Have you ever needed to visit a branch but not been near one? With Shared Branching, you can visit over 5,000 credit union branches across the US! And with the SurF ATM network, you’re never far from a surcharge-free ATM here in Maine.

Shared Branching

As a member of Saco Valley Credit Union, you can use the Co-Op Shared Branching Network. The Co-Op Shared Branching Network is a collective of credit unions that have agreed to ‘share’ their branches with members from other credit unions. What this means is that if your credit union participates in this network, you can visit any other participating shared branching credit union and transact inside the branch just as you would at Saco Valley Credit Union! Need to make a loan payment? Withdraw money? Simply visit the teller line of a participating location, provide an ID and your account number, and they will be able to process your transaction for you. Shared branching transactions must be done inside, and cannot be done at drive-throughs.

With over 5,500 participating locations across the United States, and even some shared branches internationally, you are rarely far from a credit union you can use!

SurF ATM Network

Saco Valley Credit Union is a member of the SurF ATM Network. This means that you can use over 200 ATMs in Maine without being charged a fee! Like the Shared Branching network, credit unions work cooperatively to ‘share’ ATMs, so that members can take advantage of the credit union benefits even if they aren’t near their home branch.

Different Networks

The Co-Op Shared Branching Network is different than the SurF ATM Network and different than the Co-Op Shared ATM network. While some credit unions participate in the Co-Op shared ATM network, Saco Valley Credit Union does not, and has opted to use the SurF ATM network instead. Credit Unions can elect to participate in these networks, so just because one participates in the Co-Op Shared Branching Network does not mean they participate in the Co-Op Shared ATM network, and vice versa. This means that you may be able to go inside and use the teller line like it’s your own credit union, but you still may be charged a fee to use the ATM if the credit unions aren’t part of the same network. When you go to either a credit union branch or ATM, it’s important to make sure they participate in the same network for whichever type of transaction you are looking to complete.
